Some good news. The population of Eastern monarchs, which overwinter in Mexico, is the largest since 2007 with a 144%. However, the Western monarch population is down 86% over last year so all is not rosy.
What can you do? Continue (or start if you have not already) to plant native milkweed as both a host & nectar plant for the monarch’s, discontinue use of pesticides and plant flowers for nectar. And spread the word to all your neighbors encouraging them to provide much-needed habitat for these graceful, beautiful butterflies.
