US Fish & Wildlife Service (USF&WS) announced they are extending their review of a rule to manage the last remaining red wolf population in North Carolina. On Nov 5, a judge ruled USF&WS violated the Endangered Species Act by allowing landowners to shoot red wolves that were not endangering people, pets or livestock.
By delaying any decision, USF&WS says they will be able to further evaluate the judge’s ruling. Unfortunately, the wild red wolf population needs our help now with less than 40 red wolves left in the wild. Read a comprehensive article on the issues here
We will have to wait & see how long the delay is but writing USF&WS (and your elected officials) could help. Ask them to expedite their decision & protect a critically endangered iconic American animal. You can make a difference.
